By navigating the path to geospatial excellence, this event aspires to catalyze transformative change and promote inclusive, future-ready smart cities—both in India and around the world. An International Conference aims to explore the latest advancements in geospatial technology and its role in shaping smart cities. As urbanization accelerates, integrating AI, IoT, big data, and remote sensing with geospatial intelligence is essential for efficient city management and sustainability. The event will bring together researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers to discuss cutting-edge solutions in spatial analytics, digital twins, smart infrastructure, and data-driven governance. By fostering collaboration between academia and industry, the conference seeks to drive innovation and develop future-ready geospatial applications for smarter urban ecosystems.
Birla Institute of Scientific Research (BISR) was established in realization of the dreams of visionary industrialist Shri Braj Mohan Birla to foster and promote Science and Technology. His vision was carried forward by Late Shri Ganga Prasad Birla and now by Shri Chandra Kant Birla by strengthening and diversifying the activities of BISR.
BISR undertakes goal oriented applied research in the frontier areas of science and technology. Besides, in-house initiatives government and industry sponsored projects are also undertaken. It also organizes quality improvement and customized training programme. It has established effective linkages with industry, educational and other institutions. It organizes conferences, symposia, workshops and scientific meetings in the areas of strategic needs of the country.
BISR has the potential to become a preferred institute for contract research as it has a committed group of scientist and excellent working environment. It is keen to form mutually beneficial partnership with R&D institutions and industries in India and abroad.
ISPRS is a non-governmental organization devoted to the development of international cooperation for the advancement of photogrammetry and remote sensing and their applications. The Society’s scientific interests include photogrammetry, remote sensing, spatial information systems and related disciplines, as well as applications in cartography, geodesy, surveying, natural, Earth and engineering sciences, and environmental monitoring and protection. Further applications include industrial design and manufacturing, architecture and monument preservation, medicine and others. The scientific and technical work of the ISPRS is accomplished by 5 Technical Commissions (TCs). Each Commission has a President and Secretary. Each Technical Commission functions through its Working Groups, organising conferences, training programmes and activities relevant to disseminate the Geospatial Technology knowledge. Duration of the Commissions is four years.
ICWG V/IV on Spatial Information Science Education of ISPRS aims to map, document and assess the academic and research activities and advancements. It aims to help and assist the promotion of Spatial Information Science. This ICWG influences the geospatial technology stakeholders; it encourages, motivates and creates a spatial skill through the activities, such as, preparing education material, offering short-term training programs, seminar and experts’ lectures and relevant activities at local, regional and international level engaging more and more young scientists. This ICWG intend to organize focus group discussions and workshops exchanging latest developments and engaging in research activities in the fields of Spatial Information Science and emerging technologies, promoting the publications in ISPRS Annals/Archives, for this purpose, it works closely with the Working Groups of Technical Commissions IV and V.
A conference on ‘NEXT GEO Navigating Excellence in Geospatial Technology for Smart Cities’ is of critical importance in today’s rapidly urbanizing world. As cities evolve into complex, data-driven ecosystems, geospatial technology plays a pivotal role in enabling smarter, more efficient urban management. Through tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and location intelligence, city planners and decision-makers can visualize spatial relationships, optimize infrastructure, and respond proactively to challenges like traffic congestion, environmental degradation, and disaster risks. This conference provides a vital platform for stakeholders to explore how cutting-edge geospatial innovations can be integrated into the core of urban governance and smart city initiatives.
Moreover, the conference fosters collaboration between government bodies, academic institutions, technology developers, and private enterprises. It encourages the exchange of best practices, promotes interoperability of systems, and helps shape policies on data privacy, sustainability, and inclusive growth. By convening experts and practitioners under one roof, the event drives forward-thinking dialogue and showcases practical solutions that harness spatial data for public benefit. Ultimately, such a conference not only advances the technical excellence of smart city frameworks but also contributes to building resilient, liveable, and future-ready urban environments.
